Our client is an international biotech and medical devices business focussed on a couple of distinct medical areas. The business is based in Central London in a small office (20 people) of which 4 are in finance.
Financial Accountant
Job Purpose
The Financial Accountant is a key position with the Finance Team and is a robust Business Partner, supporting the Finance Director and the Senior Management Team in decision making and to develop, implement and maintain an effective international financial control function. The Financial Accountant is responsible for good governance, enhancing the Group’s policies and procedures, developing the Accounting Manual and implementing proper financial controls. The Financial Accountant is also responsible for the external financial reporting and tax compliance, delivering information promptly and accurately. As a key Business Partner, the FA is responsible for the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes. Working capital and cashflow management are a key aspect of the role.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Management Information and Business Partnering
- Assist the Management Accountant to develop and implement regular, timely and meaningful management information
- Be a Business Partner to the Leadership Team and the department heads, providing information and assisting with financial control (vs Budget, vs Forecast) of their respective areas to enable effective decision making
- Financial reporting and compliance
- Responsible for the preparation of group the consolidation, the group and individual company statutory financial statements all Group companies
- Responsible for the preparation and management of audits for all Group companies
- Implement the latest accounting standards
- Develop and implement transactional accounting processes and controls and ensuring all accounting manuals and procedures are up to date
- Create new processes and controls around all new business development
- Recommend changes that will improve the Group’s financial performance and financial controls
- Responsible for the Group’s annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting cycle
- Assist with the Group’s long term business plan
- Financial analytical support to the business
- Cost/Benefit analysis of new projects
- Assist with developing and maintaining the Group’s long term integrated financial planning model
- Preparation of regular cashflow forecasts
- Management of working capital in line with business objectives
- Identify and drive business improvement in cost management and ensure payment schedule aligns to cash flow requirements
- Manage loan covenants and reporting
- Assisting with payment releases
- Investment appraisal- e.g. New systems implementation
- Support the FD and Senior Management Team with fund-raising
- Assist with the preparation of investor and other slide presentations
- Tax compliance (corporate, VAT and payroll) and ensuring an efficient tax positions, budgeting, especially related to R&D tax credits
- Tax planning with the FD and the tax advisors o Responsible for tax audits and inspections
- Coaching and mentoring colleagues in the small finance team
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum of degree level education and qualified ACA with minimum two years post-qualified industry experience and looking for a change or next step up, or a Senior Manager/Manger from an audit/accountancy firm looking for their first Industry role
- Technically strong and must have knowledge of IFRS
- Previous experience within a FMCG or biotech/pharmaceutical/healthcare enterprise would be advantageous
- Previous experience ensuring financial controls are operating effectively
- Experience dealing with auditors and HRMC
- High level of attention to detail
- To be a self-starter, able to work on own initiative
