The role:-
We are seeking a VAT Specialist who can advise staff internally and existing/potential clients on complex VAT advisory projects and opportunities. You will also work towards developing a presence in the local market place, including a group of contacts and referrers to generate fee income. Alongside this we are keen for you to be able to engage in the development of in-house skills including the training and development of staff across all regions of the firm, to enable cross referral of services.

More information on the role - main responsibilities:

Taking responsibility for the delivery of VAT advice and technical support to clients and colleagues
Conducting VAT health checks to ensure compliance and to spot planning opportunities.
Ensuring the quality of VAT advice in the firm
Reviewing work prepared by other members of staff
Some VAT compliance tasks, including; submission of returns, registrations and making VAT payments
Prepared to face forthcoming issues presented by Brexit, Making Tax Digital, case law and changes in HMRC policy
Maintaining a high level of relevant technical knowledge
Ensuring assignments are completed within agreed budgets
Dissemination of information and training to colleagues in the firm, and clients on occasion.
Making a contribution to the firm's practice development
Developing professional relationships with clients, other local professional firms and potential clients
Identifying technical issues, as well as selling opportunities and risks to partners of the firm
Participation in bids/proposals for new work as required
Adherence to the firms risk management policies and procedures

To seek out opportunities to develop the offering of VAT advice, through the use of networking and tailored marketing approaches

Desirables:

Education and qualification:
CTA or ACA or ACCA qualified

Experience:
Can demonstrate a high level of practical VAT advisory experience
Experience of presenting advice in writing, in person and over the telephone
Experience in delivering training both internally and externally
Strong, client focussed, commercial and technical expertise
Can demonstrate a high level of practical personal tax experience
Previous experience working in an accountancy or other professional services firm
An understanding of the workings of a professional partnership in an accounting and tax environment
The ability to initiate and convert business development opportunities
