Finance Business Partner
Loughborough
£40,000 - £45,000 per annum
SF Group are currently working in partnership with the David Ross Education Trust to find a Finance Business Partner that will become an integral part of the successful Academy. This is a great opportunity to have full ownership of the commercial finance operations within several of their academy's .
The David Ross Education Trust is a network of unique and diverse academies, committed to becoming one of the top-performing multi-academy trusts in the country. Recognized as one of 11 system leaders nationwide, the Trust works with 34 primary and secondary schools across the country
The Trust places significant importance on developing strong financial management within each academy and across the network.
The Finance Business Partner will be responsible for:
- Lead preparation of Academy budgets, including capital budgets where appropriate (to cover all areas lead by the Director of Operations and Director of PR and Comms)
- Design and lead preparation of budget presentation packs, working with FC's team and co-ordinating across non-finance stakeholders
- Provide support and challenge to budget holders to ultimately deliver a budget that is underpinned by robust plans for achieving value for money
- Ensure budget presentation includes sensitivity analysis and articulation of risks and opportunities
- Ensure financial forecasts are kept up to date on a monthly basis and variances to prior month forecast and budget are clearly explained - provide guidance to Management Accountant and/or Finance Analyst Assistants for loading into forecast system
- Prepare financial business cases for any investments or other operating changes, provide recommendations as to how to proceed, taking into account financial and non-financial factors
- Champion strong risk management - lead adherence to the Trust's Risk Management Policy and Procedures for Primary and Secondary Education services
- Provide finance support and challenge to tenders for third party services, ensuring Trust policies and procedures are followed and maximum value for money is achieved
- Establish and maintain records to demonstrate compliance with Procurement policy and procedures
- Drive a proactive approach to supplier management, challenging and Education Service teams in holding key suppliers to account for delivering good service, in line with contract terms, and negotiating rebates, discounts or retendering services as appropriate
- Demonstrate a basic awareness of accounting standards, The Academies Financial Handbook, tax and other appropriate legislation to be able to identify non-compliance risks or issues and take advice from the CFO or FC as to how to address these
- Ensure income from Education / Enrichment activities are maximised
- Hold (non-finance) staff to account for recoverability of education related income
- Comply with GDPR legislation
- Other duties as appropriate, for example assisting the CFO with preparation of Board papers, or follow-up on internal audit actions
The Finance Business Partner must have/be:
- Newly / nearly qualified / QBE - Experience is more important
- Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to communicate concisely and with impact, both to internal as well as external audiences
- Works on own initiative, as well as in consultation and negotiation with stakeholders as required
- Highly organised with good planning skills and the ability to deliver to agreed target dates
- Desire and ability to challenge the status quo and deliver change
- Suitability for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
