Aurora Academies Trust exists to provide challenging and inspiring learning experiences to help pupils become responsible citizens and achieve success in their lives. Across our six schools in East and West Sussex and Brighton, we place every child at the heart of our mission, going the extra mile to meet their social, emotional and intellectual needs. The Trust has grown steadily since its inception in 2012 and has plans for further growth.

To continue our vital work and welcome more academies and free schools into our family, it is imperative that we maintain the highest standards of financial management. We will look to our Director of Finance & Resources to make this happen. To achieve this, you will oversee all aspects of our finances and resources: setting and monitoring budgets, preparing management and annual accounts, mentoring schools’ business managers, and liaising with auditors. What’s more, our Finance Director will be a key member of our executive team – playing a central role in shaping our strategy and direction, setting clear financial objectives and ensuring compliance with school funding rules.

Bringing considerable financial acumen and deep passion for continuous improvement, you should be a qualified accountant and seasoned financial manager, with proven experience of setting strategy and overseeing operations. Controlling budgets, procuring services, negotiating contracts and working with external and internal auditors should be second nature to you, and you will relish responsibility and opportunities to expand your role. You will be capable of getting the most from colleagues, processes and systems in a complex, people-oriented organisation – and you will be ready to act as a catalyst to take us to the next level.

Our Director of Finance & Resources will normally be based at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy in Bexhill where, during term time, you will attend a weekly executive team meeting. You will be expected to travel to all six schools in Bexhill, Eastbourne, Brighton and Crawley at least once per month in term time and more often where necessary. An ability to work flexibly across a number of locations is essential.
