Critical Responsibilities

Planning and expertise


  • Translate policy and technical positions into practical terms for others, and create a shared understanding of what has to be achieved by the technical team.
  • Keep technically up to date in areas relating to ACCA, maintaining a technical expertise in one or more areas so as to be the subject matter expert for more advanced queries.

  • Engagement


  • Provide business and technical advice, in the areas of financial reporting, auditing, taxation and company and business law, to members/firms
  • Provide practical written advice on a range of business and practice management issues including digital content
  • Research and write articles, guides and factsheets on technical and business issues;

  • Other


  • Monitor policy and technical positioning to keep abreast of issues
  • Stay abreast of all matters relating to the accounting profession to provide management information and analysis to ensure market trends are tracked

  • Person Specification

    Knowledge and experience:

    • An understanding of the issues impacting on the profession, as well as an interest in or experience of policy issues such as economic development, corporate governance, audit and corporate reporting, sustainability, business law and professional regulation;
    • Knowledge of current accounting, auditing, advisory and taxation issues, with the ability to practically apply the knowledge;

    Education and qualifications:

    • To be an ACCA/ICAEW/ICAS qualified

    Skills and attributes:

    • Excellent communicator with first class presentation and influencing skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage and energise people at all levels;
    • Proven research, drafting and writing experience on technical issues at a high level;
    • Excellent analytical/numeracy skills with the ability to interpret data and to summarise information to enable effective decision making;
    • Strong, proven influencing and negotiation skills;
    • Able to work under pressure, on own initiative and within agreed budgets;
