Rail Refranchising Competition Finance Manager
London (West), London (Greater)
£51,238 - £57,506
Take responsibility for the financial control of multi-million pound projects
The Department for Transport (DfT) holds an interesting remit. Tasked with enabling a cost-effective and efficient network that will allow the population to travel between their destinations with minimal fuss, our 18,000 employees work collaboratively to achieve innovative results. Focussed on investing the public’s money to greatest effect, our reach spans from bus routes and train lines, to transport infrastructure and pavements. It is a fascinating challenge, and is one that supports economic prosperity and enhances the nation’s quality of life.
Joining the Passenger Services team which sits within the Department’s Rail Group, you will be central to the work of the project team who design and procure high profile rail franchises worth £billions. Supporting key commercial strategies and decisions, your expert financial advice will extend from challenges such as developing the commercial proposition of franchises, to reviewing Financial Model suites. You will also work with bidders for rail franchises, developing templates and managing stakeholder relationships. With your day-to-day challenges involving detailed tasks such as the preparation of long-form reports and assessing the financial elements of Expressions of Interest, this is an exceptional role that will take you from designing risk share mechanisms to assessing the capital requirements of asset transfer schemes.
With the capacity to work both in a team and autonomously, you will have exceptional communication and leadership skills. We are looking for someone with the capacity to form and nurture partnerships, including those in the private sector, and you will have the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment. With good commercial and financial acumen, you will have an accountancy qualification, be studying towards one, or have a significant level of finance experience. You will also have good Excel skills, plus experience of analysing complex commercial and technical information, and presenting it in an understandable format to a wide variety of audiences.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved in rail decisions that impact on millions of people. And while career satisfaction is guaranteed in a role of this magnitude, so too is the scope for a great work/life balance, including the chance to work flexibly wherever possible. Further enhanced by a generous benefits package, plus ongoing development opportunities and great networking potential, this is a position that will afford you the chance to enhance your industry reputation and improve transport for every member of every community.
