Hays Senior Finance is proud to be partnered with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), a non-departmental public body created through the Energy Act 2004. The NDA are responsible for the management and clean-up of a number of their nuclear sites; including their liability and assets.  The NDA employ 200 members of staff throughout their 17 sites in England, Wales and Scotland.  They have a requirement for 2 x Group Accountants who are CCAB qualified to join their Headquarters based at Moor Row, near Whitehaven on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager as part of a team of 4, you will support the preparation of management and statutory financial information for the Authority and Group of diverse businesses, whilst also ensuring processes and systems are operated to high professional standards.

Key responsibilities of this job are: -

  • Preparation of the NDA Authority and Group financial statements in accordance with the relevant accounting standards.

  • Preparation of management accounts for presentation to use by key decision makers including budget holders and NDA executive board.

  • Preparation of budget information to NDA Corporate Centre, monthly management, monitoring and analysis to ensure accurate and engaging information for the use of budgets holders.

  • Preparation and maintenance of key long term forecasts for use in NDA’s business planning.

  • Management and maintenance of key NDA financial models.

  • Management of financial systems and processes on Sage.

  • Support financial management systems and processes of NDA subsidiaries.

  • Ensure compliance with NDA taxation requirements.

  • Support the financial reporting team and wider finance team.

The skill and experience required for this job include: -

  • Qualified accountant, CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA, ACA.

  • A successful track record of practical finance experience gained in an accountancy practice, large group business or public body.

  • Hands on experience, enjoys the detail.

  • Excellent communicator with gravitas.

  • High level of Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot tables, vLookups, etc.) and Sage experience is desirable.

  • An awareness of the importance of maintaining financial control, frameworks and governance processes.

  • Candidates must either hold or be capable of achieving Security Clearance.
