I currently have a fantastic opportunity to join a premier employer in Exeter as their Head of Internal Controls. You will work closely with the Chief Accountant and their team as well as other senior members of the finance team to ensure that managers are appropriately defining and operating their controls to cover the company from major risks.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Improve the internal control environment.
Identify and prioritise where controls should be improved in consultation with other members of the finance team and across the business.
Develop communication methods to ensure controls are understood and adhered to.
Ensuring control weaknesses are being actioned in line with commitments made in internal audit reports.
Write Finance Standing Instructions to ensure everyone understands their accountability for performing control checks etc.
Oversee the Strategic Risk Register to ensure it is a live document.
Oversee the Business Continuity Plan to ensure this is an active live process.
Support and monitor the implementation of the action plans to implement improved internal controls.
Track delivery of Business Case benefits, working with the Finance Business Partnering team.
Objectives:
Provide company's managers and management with the relevant Internal Control methodological support.
Ensure key internal controls are defined, implemented, documented, assessed and monitored.
Ensure internal control deliverables are consistent within the company and at the required level of quality.
Deliver adequate and timely reporting on Internal Control framework and control deficiencies.
Ensures the business continuity plan and the Strategic Risk Register are embedded within the business and culture.
Document and ensure internal control documentation/policy is understood and agreed by company's management, control functions, auditors and regulators.
Ensure consistency of company's Internal Control policy with company requirements.
In order to be successful you will be a qualified accountant with experience of financial control, audit or risk management with emphasis on operational risks and internal controls.
