What it’s about:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Payroll Manager to join our friendly, established and supportive payroll team based in Cambridge.  As Payroll Manager you will need to ensure that the UK payroll is processed accurately and on time, as well as continually driving process improvements.  You will have a confident, positive, "can-do" attitude with good organisational skills.

What you'll be doing:

You will:

  • Be the central point of contact for key stakeholders in the business and manage the UK payroll.
  • Continually review existing UK processes and systems with a view to actively identify key tax risks and process improvements and ensure best practice and risk mitigation strategies are implemented
  • Ensure accurate UK statutory staff payroll compliance, including calculation and reporting of all key components of UK staff payroll
  • Ensure accurate UK pension reporting and regulatory compliance
  • Provide management to the UK payroll team ensuring staff development and growing skills to adhere to policies, procedures and UK statutory legislation.  Create a high performing team who are responsive to queries and changes from external bodies
  • Take the lead when liaising with internal and external payroll audit requirements including working collaboratively with the wider finance function in order to resolve all queries and report on results in a timely manner
  • Provide advice on UK payroll-related matters, responding to queries and working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure customer service KPI’s are met and payroll accuracy is ensured. Take the lead on UK payroll related projects
  • Ensure communication channels such as Insite are kept up to date and managed in a timely manner especially relating to new rules and regulations effecting UK Payroll
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the overseas payroll team/processes

What we're looking for:

  • Educated to at least A-level standard (or equivalent)
  • CIPP Diploma or equivalent organisation
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation relating to payroll and pensions
  • The ability to lead and motivate a team
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • You must be able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines as well as be able to manage your own time effectively
  • Previous UK payroll management experience
  • Previous experience and knowledge of UK pension schemes, preferably USS
  • Experience of working with HR
  • High attention to detail required, with the ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders across the business
  • Demonstrates a high level of ownership, integrity, accountability, and time management
  • Comfortable dealing autonomously with technical issues often in short timeframes
  • Drive best practice through continuous process improvement
