Our client is a multinational Energy business in London.

Owing to an internal move a vacancy has arisen for a very strong technical accountant to join their Accounting Policy team focused on the downstream operations.

The Downstream Accounting Policy team is responsible for providing the Finance community in the Downstream Segment with advice on technical accounting issues. The Policy team are also responsible for issuing guidelines to the Segment on the application of policies in the Group Reporting Manual and embedding Group policy within the businesses.

Downstream is a large and complex segment with many technical accounting issues at any one time. The work is varied and provides good exposure to senior management and the opportunity to get involved in wide ranging projects associated with acquisitions and disposals; roll-out of new accounting standards; the quarterly due diligence process and other accounting issues as they arise.

The role is a good opportunity for an experienced qualified accountant to develop technical accounting skills, develop business knowledge and gain exposure at high levels within the company.

To be successful you must be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA), with an accountancy practice background, ideally from an Accounting Advisory team. Experience of working in industry after is preferred but you must possess an excellent technical understanding of accounting policies, ideally IFRS 15 and 16.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills as you will have to deal with a variety of stakeholders and will be required to initiate, influence and recommend on the development of Group policy for new accounting standards that affect the Segment and to promote their consistent application across the businesses .

You will partner with key business stakeholders to understand business requirements, strategic objectives and financial implications to ensure the best result while maintaining compliance with Group policy.
