The Senior Accounting Manager – Revenue & Inventory stream is responsible for overseeing the General Accounting and Financial Reporting for the Revenue, Inventory, and Gross Margin function of Sony Europe. Inclusive of Balance Sheet responsibility of the associated Balance Sheet Accounts.

In this Senior Accounting Manager role he or she is responsible to ensure timely and accurate monthly closing, and will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and US/IFRS GAAP for these financials. The role is supported by an on-site team with transactional activities being provided by a BPO (Off-shore team).

An important element of the Senior Accounting Manager role is coordinating different stakeholders within business units and in-country organisations across Europe as well as the European management.

Key Responsibility Areas of the Senior Accounting Manager:

Specifically in all cases for Revenue, Inventory, and Gross Margin:

• Record-to-Report:
  • Co-ordinate monthly closing with business input, in line with the central timetable;
  • Co-ordinate the calculation, review and approval of accruals and provisions, deferred elements etc., in line with the Sony Core Process Model to include:
    • Propose, consolidate, review Revenue and Cogs entries;
    • Consolidate, review margins and profitability at category and country level.
    • Review and assess accuracy and adequacy of accruals / provisions /deferrals.
• Controllership (Actual):
  • Review and approval of journal (accruals & provisions etc.) postings
  • Review and central approval of exceptional accruals / provisions
• Commercial Acumen:
  • Ability to understand and interpret commercial structures and assess that they are correctly reported in the Financials.
  • Ability to understand the needs and motivations of the Business and understand their impacts on the Financials and the Control Environment.
• Financial / Technical Compliance:
  • Liaise with the Statutory and Compliance team to ensure all finance and commercial activities in the business comply with the effective application of agreed Sony Corporate Accounting Policy and SOX controls.
  • Provide Technical guidance in verbal and written format to Business as and when needed – under Corporate Acctg Policy, USGAAP, and IFRS as required.
• Tax / Treasury:
  • Support Global Tax Office (GTO) requests with the provision of general ledger (GL) information
  • Support Sony Global Treasury Services (SGTS) requests with the provision of GL information
• Support the business process team to:
  • Drive standardised processes and procedures across countries and business groups to deliver efficiency and effectiveness in high volume transactional based accounting
  • Build, maintain and leverage positive working relationships;
  • Identify and implement process improvements to continually balance efficiency and improve service to the front line business;

Qualifications & Experience required of the Senior Accounting Manager: 

• Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or international equivalent).
• Experience of IFRS essential.
• Experience of USGAAP preferred.
• Significant proven experience at senior manager level.
• Proven results in raising and maintaining high performance in teams.
• Driving & sustaining change in a lean accounting environment on a pan-European basis.
