Sanderson are working on an exciting opportunity in Edinburgh with a leading insurance provider. They are currently seeking to add an experienced medical / life Underwriter to an already established team due to an increased work flow driven by continued growth. The team provides a comprehensive underwriting service for their protection business which plays a key factor in supporting growth but also to ensure they deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Role / Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the assessment of Life and Disability applications
• Assessment of all information from relevant sources, such as medical reports, and information provided by applicants
• A varied and interesting role where decision making skills are key to provide a fair outcome
• Strong written and oral communication skills will be vital to enable you to articulate the reasons behind your decisions to both customers and 3rd party advisor
• Care and empathy when liaising with our customers is a key requirement ensuring you are sensitive to customers individual circumstances

Requirements:

• Previous experience in Life and Disability Underwriting is essential
• Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting or Claims qualification - Advantageous but not essential

• A proven track record of underwriting skills
• Sound Knowledge and experience of the Protection Market
• Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to work in an open phone environment
• Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information
• Sound understanding of medical terminology and the ability to interpret medical information
• Established relationship and influencing skills
• Absolute passion for customer satisfaction / delivery and understanding of the drivers of customer delight/dissatisfaction
• Highly analytical with high energy and motivation
