I am currently recruiting for the distribution arm of a large retail business based in Wolverhampton. You will be responsible for leading the distribution finance function in the delivery of operational finance services for the Midlands distribution. This role reports directly to the Commercial Finance Manager and there will be 1 member of staff reporting directly to you.
As the Operational Finance Manager you will be responsible for:
- Leading the Distribution Finance and Administration function with overall responsibility to service the needs of Distribution by ensuring the team achieve their key deliverables.
- Managing a team with respect to assigning tasks, performance management, development, guidance and mentoring.
- Challenge and guide Operations on performance improvement; create a management reporting framework which provides regular and thorough business challenge to the Operations.
- Reviewing and document key operational procedures and document key control procedures; drive adherence in the distribution environment to ensure control. Set up internal audit processes for controls.
- Leading the development of the 5 year business planning outlook for their operations.
- Working closely with Transport and Retail to ensure delivery schedules are optimised to drive labour savings.
- Working closely with Trading to explore continuous improvement opportunities (such as backhaul etc.)
- Act as the key finance representative at weekly/monthly Operations "board" meetings, confidently deliver operational material to these audiences.
- Driving forward profit opportunities on capital projects through investment appraisal, procurement strategies, commercial prowess (capex, utility management, procurement etc.)
- Development of effective balanced scorecard reporting for Distribution management.
- Effective forecasting, sensitivity and scenario planning for additional cost/ cost reduction at different levels of activity.
- Full accountability for Distribution (Midlands) business performance reporting (weekly/periodic)
As Operations Finance Manager you will ideally have:
- A relevant finance qualification (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA)
- A good understanding and experience working in a distribution or logistics business
- Strong IT skills in particular excel
- The ability and confidence to constructively influence or challenge Distribution middle and senior management.
- Good time management and planning skills. Ability to work to regular weekly and monthly deadlines.
