My client heads up work to establish a screen industries hub of international significance in the Yorkshire & Humber region. They require a Head of Finance to both support the Chief Executive and Board and to develop and deliver the strategy of the business and to take responsibility for all aspects of financial management and corporate governance. The candidate would be required as from 1st February 2019.
Duties & Responsibilities
Working closely with the Chief Executive, to lead on the preparation of strategic plans and alternative future scenarios covering a 3 to 5 year time horizon. To provide advice to the Chief Executive and Board on options considered
Working closely with the Chief Executive, to lead on the preparation of the annual budget (including alternative scenarios) for presentation to and obtain agreement from the Board
To carry lead responsibility for the accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate financial records are being maintained and that the relevant accounting standards, statutory and regulatory standards and requirements are being met
To prepare monthly management accounts and detailed analysis of variances including: actual v budget, revised forecasts for the year and beyond, considering current commitments in order that current and future performance of all projects can be assessed by the business and the Board
To prepare and present both regular and ad-hoc reports to the Board with full supporting commentaries. To prepare and present the annual statutory accounts to the Annual General Meeting
To work closely with external accountants to ensure that the information is complete in order to prepare the statutory accounts and corporation tax return
To lead on the financial aspects of preparing applications for new sources of funding and considering / advising on the implications for these on existing company resources.
To liaise with external funding organisations to negotiate and agree the basis on which different forms of funding may be accessed and the specific requirements for each fund. To ensure that records are maintained to meet with these requirements and to submit invoices/claims in a timely manner. To ensure records maintained are rigorous and can be audited efficiently.
To prepare and submit the quarterly VAT return, including undertaking the annual partial exemption calculation adjustment
To ensure compliance with all relevant statutory financial requirements including VAT, PAYE, NI, Pensions Auto Enrolment, GDPR, Companies Act, Government accounting etc
To act as Company Secretary to ensure that Screen Yorkshire meets its statutory requirements in relation to Companies House
To ensure that members of the finance team have the key skills, training and systems to fulfil their roles
To develop and deliver improved financial systems and processes, particularly using Microsoft Excel
To ensure that in all financial matters a good working relationship is maintained with all external and internal stakeholders, e.g. bank, suppliers, landlord, funding organisations, clients, etc
To ensure that finance staff, the Chief Executive and Board of Directors are aware of current best practice in financial and management reporting, and that they are all aware of their legal and fiduciary responsibilities
To provide support to the CEO on HR policies and procedures
To lead on the tendering for goods and services to ensure that the organisation receives value for money from its suppliers.
To undertake any other reasonable activities as directed by the Chief Executive
Candidate Profile and experience
Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of accounting procedures and audit requirements
- Familiarity with Public Funds procedures and compliance
- Familiarity with European Funds (ERDF)
- A working knowledge of film, TV, interactive media and the regional and national moving image archive sector
Experience
- Senior level financial management experience
- Experience of working with a board of directors/senior management
- Experience of working with Public Funds
- Experience of working with funding from Europe particularly ERDF
- Working experience in film/TV, games/new media
Qualifications
- Recognised accountancy qualification
