Senior Accounts Assistant

Based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Accounts Assistant to join a reputable accountancy firm on a permanent basis.

The successful individual will preferably have some knowledge within bookkeeping and Accounts and will have ideally already worked in an accountancy practice.

The successful candidate will also be a vital part of the transactional finance team. As an Accounts Administrator you enjoy putting your accounting knowledge into practice, with high attention to detail & working with both pace and integrity. Your work will be varied, making each day different & interesting and you will enjoy having a number of colleagues at a similar point in their career to work alongside.

This job would suit a Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant who is looking for a role where they can come in and hit the ground running. You will ideally have strong experience in a practice environment and be looking for a fresh challenge. They are looking for an articulate and enthusiastic individual to join their team. The candidate will be responsible for many key clients, so an excellent telephone manner is essential.

Job description:

  • Bookkeeping on Xero and/or Sage One and excel spreadsheets
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Use of Microsoft Excel worksheets
  • Analyse financial data
  • Regular contact with clients by telephone and in person
  • Help prepare financial information and ensure the accuracy of financial data
  • Check financial records for accuracy, ensuring activities are carried out in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Preparation of information and reports for internal and external use
  • Working as part of a flexible team the post holder will undertake the following duties:
  • Purchase Ledger processing:
  • Input supplier invoices, including coding entries for VAT and expense type
  • Check invoices to supplier statements
  • Sales Ledger processing:
  • Generate Sales invoices
  • Follow up unpaid items
  • Process journals

General finance office duties:

  • Filing, scanning, photocopying and archiving
  • Updating spreadsheets and standard letters as directed
  • Taking telephone messages
  • Assisting accountants with administration duties for major projects
  • Ensure that good practice, customer care and health and safety are fully blended into day-to-day activities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English
  • At least part qualified AAT
