Interim Project Accountant

Reporting to the Financial Controller, with a close link to the Head of Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis, this role requires accurate accounting, recognition, forecasting and reporting on capital spend, ensuring that managers and directors receive timely and accurate information in relation to a large investment project but also all other operational investments. This will ensure that the business continues to operate successfully and efficiently in terms of operations and finance during the development and also delivers the assets required to enable the huge growth potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide the link between the delivery partner team for Development Project and the senior management, ensuring timely information is provided to enable informed business decisions to be made including critical debt drawdowns.
• Ensure consistency between accounting records and project reporting on value of works completed against phasing of expenditure for forecasts, budgets and long term plans.
• Develop a management information pack for senior management on commitment, value of work and cashflow for actuals, forecasts and long term plan.
• Flag risks and opportunities throughout the project compared to forecasts, plans and cashflow projections.
• Challenge projects managers on the forecast spend on all capital projects including the operational non schemes.
• Develop appropriate models to project monthly capital cashflows for inclusion in group cashflow models
• Provide guidance on the application of the capitalisation policy to project manager to assist in the correct recognition of capital versus operating expenditure.
• In liaison with the FC determine how project assets should be brought into use in terms of both timing and splitting into recognisable assets.
• Proactively identifying and implementing process improvements within the team and across the business e. developing tracking and reporting system optimising the capability of the projects module in Microsoft Dynamics.
• Business Partner & support project managers in developing capital business cases, acting as a critical friend ensuring consistency with business objectives, and that appropriate analysis has been included prior to papers being submitted to Management Board.

Experience and Personal Attributes
Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACA /CIMA or other) or experienced finalist.
Experience in project accounting
Ability to forge successful & challenging relationships across the business
Ability to influence at all levels of the business
Clear communicator
Conscientious in meeting deadlines Works on own initiative to solve problems and suggest alternative ways of working
Attention to detail Ability to priorities and time manage workload
