Overall Job Purpose:
You will be the person responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of the EICL insurance ledger. This will include cash accounting, reconciliation, IPT reporting, and generation of general ledger entries. The role will also need to work effectively with the teams based in Grantham and Gibraltar.
Job Description
As EICL’s Technical Accountant, you are responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data held within the insurance ledger, for the processing and reconciliation of all cash settlements in respect of the insurance bordereaux, including claims, and for the completion of IPT returns for the Company. As the underwriting team is based in Grantham and the accounting team in Gibraltar, this person will be a principal link between these teams.
The role will report to the Group Financial Director who is based in Saffron Walden. The individual will be a good self-starter, numerate with an eye for detail and have good Microsoft Excel skills.
Primary Accountabilities of the Technical Accountant
- Reconciling all premium and claim bordereaux with the data reported in the Insurance Ledger.
- Processing all cash settlements, in relation to the insurance bordereaux and claims, and to complete the cash reconciliations.
- Generating general ledger entries to post the monthly premium, commission, and claim entries.
- Preparing all submissions and associated documentation associated with the IPT reporting requirements of the company.
- Arranging timely settlement of all IPT balances.
- Working with the underwriting team to resolve all reconciliation differences, unmatched cash items and any outstanding cash due
- Working with the accounting team to ensure that cash processing and general ledger entries comply with their control and data requirements.
- Developing a reporting and control framework that ensures a robust, consistent and auditable process is implemented and then maintained.
- Supporting the underwriting team in resolving all matters arising from the reconciliation and posting of the bordereaux.
- Working with the IT specialists to improve automation of data input and output in respect of the Helix system.
- To continually identify opportunities for process improvements that will support timely and accurate recording and analysis of the insurance data.
Experience and Required Skills of the Technical Accountant
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant
- Experience of working with high volume transaction ledgers
- Experience of cash management and reconciliations
- Evidence of having a focus on detail and in resolving reconciliation differences in a timely way
- Previous insurance accounting experience will be an advantage
- A self-starter who has a passion for creating a robust control environment
- Good knowledge and practical experience of MS Office products, especially Excel
