We have an exciting new opportunity for an energetic Finance Services Manager to join our exciting new business. With the re-brand to LNER (London North Eastern Railway), we are moving away from the shared service centre approach we adopted whilst we were Virgin Trains East Coast & are now bringing financial services back in-house. What an opportunity to build something new & be part of the project to deliver with world class in-house financial services function!

As an experienced Finance Services Manager, you will take ownership of the new financial services centre. Working closely with other key stakeholders in the finance team, you’ll help shape the culture, strategy & vision for this new team. Ensuring the new approach is embedded successfully, with exceptional quality & as always, with a customer experience focus at all times.

You will have the opportunity to build a strong, cross-divisional working relationships across our complex business, partnering & providing expert accounting expertise. Your expertise will enable you to work collaboratively, with other key functions, such as IT, to deliver a seamless & automated process to consistently improve finance efficiencies.

You’ll take ownership to ensure that engineering process improvements happen, with a drive to deliver 5 day management accounting across the business. Working with internal & external audit teams to ensure that statutory accounts for the legal entity are filled along with the completion of internal & external tax workbooks are closed within the 7 working day deadline.

We’d love you to come with an open mind & a willingness to try & implement new ideas. Certainly having the knowledge & desire to develop a new, insightful range of financial reporting & analysis to support operational & financial performance, including developing new KPI’s & business SLA’s.

Here’s where your influence comes in... You’ll adapt, challenge & persuade across the business, recognising key stakeholders with the ability to understand business challenges & opportunities for change.  This leadership will also enable you to share your style across a diverse finance team (a team that you will have the pleasure of building!). Your style will motivate & develop the team as well as knowing when to have those honest & frank conversations.

Of course, as with any critical role like this, there are a few “must haves”...

We need you to have extensive experience of managing a finance function across a complex business backed up by a professional accountancy qualification (ACA / CIMA / ACCA).

It goes without saying we need you to have exceptional understanding of finance & accounting, with experience in how shared service centres operate & how in house teams operate.

Your expert knowledge of Open Accounts should be visible on your application along with your style & approach to finance, accounting & management.

Experience within the rail industry would be great but don’t worry if not, you’ll soon pick up the rail “lingo”!
