A unique opportunity for a Finance Manager who is an ACA qualified finance professional, to make their first step out of the chartered profession, into a high growth, market leading FTSE 100 business, regarded as an Employer of Choice, offering a career pathway to Group Financial Controller or Divisional Finance Director

Specifically, our client is looking for a Finance Manager who is an ACA qualified individual, ideally from one of the Big 4, to take ownership for the group consolidation process, half-year and year-end financial reporting (including liaison with auditors) and proactively ensure that the Group’s accounting policies remain up to date.

Furthermore, the Finance Manager will also provide financial reporting advice and expertise to a number of internal teams, including the Tax, Treasury, Acquisitions and Management Accounting teams and provide responses to ad hoc financial reporting queries from the wider business.

Finance Manager Key Responsibilities will include:

Half year and year-end reporting

  • Producing the consolidated results and financial statements under IFRS, managing both upwards and downwards effectively to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Managing the timeline and collection of the information required from the subsidiary and divisional finance teams across the organisation.
  • Owning the relationship with the external audit team to ensure a seamless audit process.
  • Ensuring the firm continues to demonstrate best practice, in line with the values, remaining up to date with the latest financial reporting developments.
  • Preparing the UK FRS 101 statutory accounts for the head office companies.

Monthly and quarterly reporting

  • Monthly central journals / recharges / allocations.
  • Supporting the completion and review of balance sheet control process, including ownership of centrally controlled areas, e.g. Goodwill, Investments, Other assets/liabilities, Corporation and withholding taxes.

Other financial reporting deliverables

  • Acting as a “subject matter expert” regarding accounting standards specifically IFRS.
  • Taking the lead on technical issues, advising management on the impact of new accounting requirements and the financial consequences of commercial decisions, resolving issues/problem solving where necessary.
  • Preparing technical accounting papers - in particular relating to acquisitions, disposals, new business ventures and new accounting standards.
  • Drafting papers for the Audit Committee relating to financial reporting judgements and updates.

Accounting policies

  • Proactively ensure the Group's accounting policies remain up to date and lead the organisation's response to emerging financial reporting issues and new standards, using the latest thought leadership.

Financial controls

  • Improve and maintain the Group’s financial control framework
  • Identify and manage financial risks in the balance sheet and improve company performance by taking action on warning sign indicators.

Finance Manager Essential Skills & Experience:

Technical capabilities

  • A Big 4 trained ACA qualified accountant  / Finance Manager with relevant post qualification experience.
  • Demonstrable expertise in financial reporting requirements, specifically IFRS and interpretation of new standards.
  • Experience of communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders and relaying complex messages in an understandable manner.

Business acumen

  • Experience in using innovative technical solutions to drive efficiencies and solve problems.
  • Commercial acumen and pragmatism.

Global acumen

  • Experience in understanding the business environment and the interconnectivity of projects, on a local and global level.
