An opportunity has arisen for a well-known business based in Watford, who are seeking a permanent Assistant Payroll Manager.

Reporting into the Head of Payroll, you will have 2 direct reports who you will manage on a day-to-day basis.

This role comes at an exciting period of change for the business, and you will be part of a close team, contributing to the smooth running of the department.

You will be expected to provide an excellent payroll service, making sure all employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner. You will be supervising a team of 2. You will be required to help and support the Head of Payroll when required.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Manage and supervise a team of 2 Payroll Administrators
  • Process monthly payroll to include joiners, leavers, salary changes, service awards, pensions, job and department changes, inter region transfers.
  • Ensure the payroll process and associated administration is carried out in accordance with the appropriate company policy and procedure.
  • Apply current legislation to all payroll practices, Auto enrolment for pensions
  • Accurate calculation and payment of company and statutory payments to include: salary, bonus, service award, sick and holiday pay, statutory sick, maternity, paternity, adoption and parental pay, starter and leaver adjustments, and any other manual payments as required.
  • Manage the internal system, respond and action emails within the teams SLA.
  • Provided the payroll company and Inland Revenue with accurate and timely year end data in line with their year-end procedures
  • Ensured payroll deadlines are met and staff receive their correct salary payment monthly and p45s are processed for leavers.
  • Manage and reconciled the year end payroll to include P60 and P11Ds, as required
  • Process company car and fines data
  • Maintain company benefit schemes.

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Minimum two year payroll experience
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Reliability and honesty
  • Ability to process basic functions and formulas in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with payroll software
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • Excellent communication skills

The salary being offered for this role is between £35-£40k plus other company benefits such as a yearly bonus, free parking and discount for yourself and 2 others.
