The team provides the operational support for the rest of the Department, covering Security, IT, Estates, Corporate Strategy, Finance and HR.
Finance Team:
The Finance team sits provides the full range of finance services for the Department. The team is responsible for delivery of a number of activities including management of the Department’s Estimates and Budgets, Annual Report and Accounts, Finance Business Partners, Systems and Process Improvement and Management Information
The team is supplemented by 2 other G7’s who are responsible for:
- Management Information
- Systems and process improvement
The Head of Financial Control (Grade 7) will be responsible for:
- Preparation and publication of the Annual Report and Accounts.
- Managing the relationship with NAO and all requirements arising from interim, final and other audits
- Preparation and submission of relevant papers for Audit and Risk Assurance meetings
- Preparation of the Remuneration Report
- Management of the General Ledger including all underlying reconciliations
- Provision of financial advice to the wider Department
- Gatekeepers’ of the trial balance ensuring that all transactions and accounting treatments are in accordance with the regulatory control environment and are fully supported
- Management of all pay related transactions, balances, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
We are looking for individuals who are Qualified Accountants (CCAB or CIMA) and who are able to provide effective and constructive leadership to teams in delivery of all finance led functions within the wider team including the drive for identification and implementation of continuous improvement of processes and activities
The successful candidate will have good government accounting knowledge and strong analytical experience. They need to be a good communicator, able to explain complex financial information to non-finance staff in a succinct and clear manner. This is Key for the role.
Candidates should have the drive to collect, validate and deliver robust financial information in a complex environment
Candidates should be comfortable with leading teams, developing, and implementing process improvements
