Blackwaters is recruiting a Commercial Financial Controller on behalf of private equity backed Business Services SME based in the City.

This role reports directly to the Managing Director and will act as a key business partner to the MD, Dales Director and finance within the wider group. The Commercial Financial Controller role is expected to progress to an Finance Director role as the business delivers it's impressive growth plan. 

The Role: 

We are seeking an individual with experience from a high growth, preferably Private Equity backed SME, with ‘Board credibility’, someone who can bring a new perspective to the way finance operates within the business and can provide a finance function that is ‘best-in-class’. The ideal candidate would also have a Business Process Outsourcing background. He/she must be driven, self-starting and comfortable that the role includes taking responsibility.   

Key responsibilities are: 

  • Prepare, analyse and present finance and management reporting for the business.
  • Proactively monitor cash-flow requirements and ensure robust cash collection.
  • Supporting and partnering with the Executive Team to deliver the Company strategy.
  • ]Supporting the Executive Team through the preparation of budgets and financial reports. Monitoring and reporting on the Key Performance Indicators for the business.
  • Supervision of the long-term Business Plan including forecasting. Providing advice and guidance on financial strategy including new service offerings.
  • Receive the monthly management accounts for the investigate and report variances against budget as appropriate
  • To understand the business, the marketplaces in which it operates and assist in developing the strategy.
  • Enhance systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the company’s finances.
  • Work in close consultation with Group Chief Financial Officer to ensure the financial control framework for the business is ‘best-in-class’.
  • Commercial judgement and ability to contribute, from a financial point of view, to commercial input during contract and pricing / repricing negotiations.
  • Ensure that accounting policies comply with relevant accounting standards and that company policies are followed.
  • Recommend and take initiatives that could be financially or operationally beneficial.
  • Attend and contribute to all Management meetings, group board and other meetings as required.
  • Carry out such other duties that may reasonably fall within the remit of the post.  

Qualities: Essential:

  • Experienced financial professional who is ACA, CIMA, ACCA qualified
  • Experience working in a growth B2B SME.
  • Strong in analysis and scenario planning, with ability to deliver fast ‘helicopter view’ commercial financial analysis as well as bottom up detailed modelling.
  • Track record of financial accounting, analysis and corporate governance.
  • Having a financial controller mind, and preferably controller experience.
  • A strong and up to date working knowledge of finance-based computer systems, controls and process management.
  • Strong in Excel.
  • Evidence of proactive change management. Experience of operating at mid to senior level.
