Darwin Group Ltd is a profitable c£25million T/O independently-owned company with exciting plans to grow the business further over the next 3-5 years.  As part of these plans they are currently looking to recruit a high calibre ‘hands on’ and highly IT literate, Financial Controller to support the Group FD and Board.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with a solid financial accounting mentality, whilst having a strong commercial understanding, to be able to support capital projects, manufacturing and material processing.

This role will suit a confident, forward thinking individual who can work closely with people at all levels to assist the business’s operations.  The individual will be a proven “non-political” manager with excellent communication skills and will take complete ownership of day to day operation and mentoring of the finance team.  A highly intellectual and analytical individual with the drive, energy and resilience to deliver in a challenging and changing environment whilst mindful of operating within a family owned business.

The core objectives of this appointment will be to:

  • Oversee the financial control environment, delivering process and control improvements with key stakeholders across the business
  • Working closely with operational departments and management teams and delivering regular reports, budgets and forecasts
  • Providing financial information to stakeholders on business performance and business plans, developing appropriate KPIs to support the business’s evolution
  • Management and coaching of a finance team
  • Statutory accounts and balance sheet preparation
  • Project and manufacturing accounting
  • Producing reliable monthly management accounts with insightful commentary
  • Playing a key role in the delivery of a new company wide system to improve operational and financial reporting

It is likely the successful candidate will be able to display and evidence the following experience/ attributes:

  • Working with operational teams to interrogate and challenge drivers behind project costs and margin delivery
  • Experience of preparing financially robust information with the knowledge of the detail when challenged to provide confidence to the business (know the brief/remit).
  • Ability to provide strong working capital management in an environment where the vagaries of timing on multiple projects can impact on cash management
  • A strong working knowledge of establishing and monitoring standard manufacturing and project costing mechanisms
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to quickly convert concepts into working models which may involve data extraction and manipulation

Strong IT literacy and systems development and implementation will be a distinct advantage
