Our client is a well-established business operating in the Consumer Durables sector. It has a good record of profitability and a turnover nearing £100m supplying a wide range of innovative and design led products. The European subsidiary of a US quoted multinational, the company is planning significant growth in the next 3 – 5 years based on synergies created from recent integration and investment in strengthening sales and marketing efforts and the development of a multi-channel approach.

With further investment from its parent, the company aims to dominate the UK and European market. A “hands on” Finance Director is now required who will ensure the business benefits from a first-class reporting and control function.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate for this Finance Director role will take the lead on all aspects of financial management and reporting, as well as contributing to the strategic direction and management of the business. Key challenges include developing effective financial processes, focusing on strategic and operational planning and providing key input to the development of future commercial investments and development.

Future expansion will come through a combination of organic growth and opportunistic business investments in both its core business and other synergistic opportunities.

Relevant candidates for this Finance Director role will be commercially astute Chartered Accountants and accomplished business managers.  A background in an international Consumer Durables or multi product distribution business will be highly advantageous allied to strong planning skills and the ability to provide strong leadership and make a real commercial contribution.

Finance Director Role Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for delivering the highest standards of financial reporting, control and strategic and operational planning across the business.
• Working closely with the senior team, become fully involved in the identification and exploitation of strategic commercial development opportunities.
• Maintain effective working relations with the US head office, external stakeholders, professional advisors and regulators.
• Build and maintain a high-performance team to deliver consistently exceptional financial support and services.
• Develop real-time and relevant reporting and encourage its use.
• Focus on product profitability and segmentation analysis to better enable business decision making on a day-to-day basis.

• Provide financial discipline and business decision support long term and short terms strategic business opportunities.
• Conduct due diligence and recommendation on the timing and implementation of any significant development or technology investments.
• Advise in contract negotiations from a financial perspective.

The Candidate for this Finance Director role:

• Fully qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, CACA).
• 10+ years of progressive finance experience with experience of an international business.
• Knowledge of working with a US based PLC and the ability to work in that context and requirement.
• Experience using SAP and a good working understanding of UK / US GAAP and IFRS.
• A background in Consumer Durables, FMCG or multi product distribution will be highly advantageous.
• Experience of FX Management and International Trade.
• Sound knowledge of current best practice in corporate governance, audit and risk management and financial reporting and processes.
• Proactive leader with demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, controls, analysis and reporting with the values of integrity and transparency.
• Skilled in examining, developing, re-engineering, and recommending financial policies and procedures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Hands on and proactive management style.
• Able to execute complex financial models.
• Strategic and innovative, experienced in dealing with complexity and multi-stakeholder issues.
• Ability to shape effective strategies and lead the detailed process of implementation.
• Credible, effective communicator with interpersonal skills to engage with and win over others.
