A big four accountancy practice is looking for an Assistant Manager to join their public sector corporate tax team in London. This full-time Tax Assistant Manager role is offered on a permanent basis and pays up to £45,000 per year.

Responsibilities of your new role

Working as a member of the client service team to provide Corporate Tax Advisory services to Public Sector clients, your core duties as Assistant Manager of the Tax team will include:

  • Being the principal contact with clients on day to day tax matters
  • Involvement on tax advisory and planning work on client portfolio
  • Discussing new tax ideas with clients
  • Working with specialists to deliver expertise to the local market
  • Planning compliance work and taking responsibility for managing the process through to submission of tax computations
  • Supervising the work of junior members of staff, principally the preparation of tax computations and tax payment advice plus correspondence with
  • Reviewing corporation tax computations
  • Co-ordinating tax payments, loss relief, capital allowances, group relief and other claims
  • Liaising with the client service team and with colleagues in the audit and accounting discipline to provide a co-ordinated service to the client
  • Advising the client on the computational treatment of contentious issues
  • Implementing the firm's advice in submitting returns and negotiating with HM Revenue & Customs
  • Carrying out tax audits in accordance with terms of reference agreed with the audit team
  • Advising the audit team of potential tax exposure HM Revenue & Customs
  • Coaching less experienced staff

Candidate profile

The firm are looking for a CTA / ACA / ACCA qualified accountant with Corporate Tax experience to fill this vacancy. Prospective Tax Assistant Manager applicants should also demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in the charity or not for profit sector preferred. Experience of International Tax issues (including the interaction of taxes VAT, - CT and Income Tax)
  • Experience of Property Tax
  • High level of drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Ability to identify and pursue business opportunities
  • Ability to give clear directions, positive and constructive feedback
  • Cooperative and respectful with honest and consistent communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of UK corporate taxation and accountancy principles (including deferred taxation and accounts presentation)


The successful Tax Assistant Manager will be offered up to £45,000 per annum plus competitive benefits.
