One of the world’s leading football charities are looking for a Finance Analyst (qualified CIMA/ACCA) to join their London based HQ, and report directly into the Finance Director. Key to the role is the provision of finance support across month end, financial reporting, half-yearly reforecasts, annual budgeting and ad hoc analysis alongside business partnering various heads of departments

The Role

Month-end: Charity and commercial subsidiary

  • Execute an efficient month-end close process including the posting of journals for areas such as accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, accrued income and general ledger transactions.
  • Complete all monthly balance sheet and cash flow reconciliations. Prepare the monthly cash flow statement and update the rolling 12-month forecast to aid investment management decisions.
  • Regular validation checks to ensure data has been input into the finance system accurately and coded correctly.
  • Work with the Business Accountant to prepare the monthly management report which monitors performance of the administration budget, cost of grant giving budgets and commercial operations business plan. To investigate and log reasons for variances from budget.
  • Provide financial information, advice and guidance to budget holders

Budgeting and reporting

  • Prepare the annual budget and half-yearly reforecasts.
  • Prepare financial analysis and commentary to feed into financial reporting packs for Investment Panel and Board meetings.

Audit and Tax

  • Draft annual report and financial statements for the charity and commercial subsidiary.
  • Key point of contact for queries from auditors during the interim and annual audit.
  • Prepare, review and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • Keep up to date with changes in financial reporting and tax requirements, assessing their impact and making recommendations to ensure compliance.

Processes and policies

  • Regular review of existing finance systems, processes and controls to ensure that the Finance function continues to operate and manage risk effectively and efficiently.
  • Work closely with all departments to identify, and implement, process improvements to improve the quality and usefulness of financial information.

The Person

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA: Qualified
  • Understanding and experience of month-end and year-end reporting procedures.
  • Developing and presenting financial reporting packs for senior management.
  • Monitoring, investigating and providing advice on variances against agreed budgets.
  • Experience of working effectively with a range of internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent personal communication, verbal and written, and presentation skills, to quickly establish credibility.
  • Robust commercial, analytical and reporting skills.
