Compass Community Children’s Services comprises of 3 main services; our well established Fostering and Residential services and our newer Education Service. Our fostering service is broken down into 8 companies covering 8 regions; providing local support and training to our Foster Carers. All 8 regions are all inspected individually by Ofsted and are all judged as either ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’.
Our residential and education services continue to expand with new homes adding much needed capacity to the sector and providing Compass the opportunity to offer a multitude of placement offerings to LAs.
The Role:
Based at Compass’ offices in Loughborough, this role will have day to day responsibility over the finance function including a team of 6 as well as working closely with the Finance Director to further streamline processes and systems. Reporting financial performance of the group in an accurate and timely manner and ensuring overall financial control is maintained across the group.
Reporting into: Finance Director
Key Responsibilities:
- Line management for finance team including regular supervision and biannual appraisals.
- Production of annual budgets.
- Maintaining accurate rolling forecasts and identifying any areas which are at risk of not achieving budget.
- Production of "banking models" required for acquisitions
- Monitoring of covenants and production of quarterly covenant calculations
- Review and sign-off of the monthly financials for the group, including the consolidation of the accounts.
- Preparation of the group monthly board pack for review by the Finance Director.
- Review of finance processes, making recommendations and improvements where appropriate.
- Managing and forecasting the cash flow position, with emphasis on cash collection and credit control.
- Implementing and maintaining robust financial controls within the business, streamlining key processes where possible.
- Act as the key point of contact for a number of external relationships including external auditors, banks and regulatory bodies.
- Management of the business’ VAT position including consideration of VAT treatment on new services offered by the group
- Emphasis on standardising carer payments and LA invoicing processes
- Responsible for the management and development of the finance team
- Further ad hoc tasks as required to support the wider finance function and business.
Hours:
This role is Monday to Friday 9:00am until 5:00pm with ½ hour lunch. However, as with all finance roles at this level, flexibility will be expected and there may be times when additional hours are required. The business will aim to be flexible to allow time to be taken back where possible.
Key Attributes:
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified Accountant
- Previous experience within an SME environment would be highly beneficial though not a prerequisite
- Excellent understanding of group accounting requirements
- Strong attention to detail and a desire to be heavily involved in the intricacies of the business’ finances
- Ability to manage and to motivate staff
- Strong interpersonal skills
