Payroll Assistant, permanent job in Manchester City Centre £22000

Your new company

A leading public sector organisation based in Manchester City centre, who have an excellent reputation on the market for exceptional benefits and staff treatment. Due to growth, they are looking for a Payroll Assistant to join their friendly and approachable team on a 12 month fixed term contract. There is the opportunity of a permanent role following successful completion of the contract.

Your new role

As the Payroll Assistant you will provide a professional, efficient and effective payroll service for the organisation. You will work as part of a team to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in accordance with statutory regulations and policies. Your duties will include:

  • Determine tax codes based upon the information supplied by the new employee and HMRC
  • Maintaining and up to date understanding of how employment status is determined
  • Reviewing information provided to payroll prior to entry into the payroll system to ensure accuracy such as tax (PAYE) information, NI, pension, casual staff time sheets, overtime climes, child care voucher deductions, travel loan schemes
  • Work with areas of the business to improve policies, processes and HMRC rules
  • Maintain a full up to date knowledge of relevant scheme rules (including pension, and statutory payments), advising on HMRC rules and ensuring responses are accurate
  • Assist with company year end processes



What you'll need to succeed

You must be an experienced payroll candidate who work to tight deadlines, and process high volumes of data. You will have good Excel skills to include Microsoft Excel. You will have excellent payroll knowledge in respect of PAYE rules and other statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SAP and ASPP.
