Commercial Finance Director

This role of Commercial Finance Director reports to the CFO/ Finance Director and is a vital member of the Costcutter’s Senior Leadership.

The Commercial Finance team - reporting to the Commercial Finance Director - includes 3 senior and junior business partners and 2 financial analysts.

The Commercial Finance Director partners with the Retail Director, the Trading Director and their respective lead team members. The incumbent develops strategies and plans to deliver against the Company targets. The Commercial Finance Director partners with the Retail Director, the Trading Director and their respective lead team members. The role supports and challenges the business on its performance and provides decision support, commercial insight and forecasting the end-to-end retail P&L from a finance perspective.

Responsibilities of the Commercial Finance Director:

• Develop sound commercial plans and forecasts - Embed deliverable but challenging targets in the forecast and capture risks and opportunities
• Deliver financial KPIs and analysis to support and challenge the business - Ensure visibility and understanding of relevant financial and non-financial weekly and monthly KPIs through the Trading and Retail team.  KPIs include sales and margin, product mix, promotional analysis, own label development. 
• Detailed and proactive business performance analysis - Perform variance analysis of weekly and year to date sales, wholesale margin and its component parts and all forms of other income to support the challenges and galvanise action to keep performance on target.
• Decision support and influencing strategy - Provide the business with an understanding of the financial dynamics of issues, ensuring that risks and opportunities are identified for both profit and cash flow. 
• Improve financial controls and risk management -Lead the Trading and Retail teams in reducing risk over income from marketing activity.
• Develop our colleagues - Play a full part in developing, motivating and appraising your direct reports and the wider Finance team.

About you:

• High level of business acumen and strong commercial background gained either via an industry route (ideally Retail or FMCG sectors) or through an advisory function in a large professional services organisation
• Graduate calibre, qualified accountant or MBA
• Proven track record of being part of sound decision making, taking ownership and delivering, preferably gained in a fast-paced growth environment
• Drive for results and continuous improvement
• High level of personal credibility and proven ability to influence a variety of stakeholders
