Financial Controller

I am working with a PE-backed e-commerce business that require a Finance Controller to join their team based in Central London.

About you:

• Qualified accountant with post-qualification experience obtained in a commercial role(s)
• Background in e-commerce / retail
  • Good knowledge of the dynamics of a typical e-commerce business model
  • Subscription model (nice to have)
  • Discounts applied to gross revenue
  • Pay-Per-Click costs
  • COGs calculation
  • Rebates due from wholesaler / manufacturer re marketing campaigns, promotions and volume-based
  • Marginal costs – fulfilment / packaging / shipping / payment processing
• Experience in an FC role
• We don’t need a strategic thinker: we require someone comfortable with getting involved in the details and managing the finances very tightly given the lack of experience in full-time employees
• Need to have good experience of managing cash
• Experience in a turnaround situation desirable
• Size of business worked in: £20m revenue, EBITDA negative, headcount 30 including a finance team of 4.4 including this role

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage a finance team consisting of four people (3.4 FTEs)
• Preparation of monthly management reports and explanation of variances to plan
• Forecasting and budgeting for the business
• Prepare weekly trading report using Tableau business intelligence software tool
• Manage cash flow on a day-to-day basis
• Review and sign-off on stock purchasing
• Oversee the rebate process to ensure efficient and timely settlement of amounts due to the business
• Preparation of financial statements to audit sign-off
• VAT and Intrastat reporting in UK and provision of data to external provider for reporting for other EU countries
• Supporting the CEO of the business to achieve business objectives
• Work with the FD from the investment company to ensure that strong financial control is in place in the business and the finance department is able to add value
