The organisation:
Since 1673 Chelsea Physic Garden has occupied four acres of land on the edge of the Thames. First established by the Society of Apothecaries in order to grow medicinal plants, this extraordinary garden in London has had far reaching impact around the world. Chelsea Physic Garden is entering a period of large scale project development and a major fundraising appeal to restore and refurbish the buildings and facilities associated with this Grade 1 listed garden. Current income is at approx. £1.8m but this is expected to rise as a result of the fundraising efforts making this a very exciting time in the history of the garden.
The role:
The Head of Finance reports to the Director and currently manages one person. You will be responsible for coordinating the finance and accounting function of the Chelsea Physic Garden’s commercial and charitable activities. The post is responsible for ensuring that all finance and accounting duties are managed, including debtors, suppliers, payroll, VAT returns, cash management, monthly and annual accounts and compiling information for audit.
The Head of Finance works closely with the Director. You will provide monthly management accounts for Trustees and budget holders; and prepare finance reports, forecast and analysis as required tosupport the Garden.
What you'll need to succeed:
You will be a qualified Accountant or very close to qualification. Previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial. The role might also suit an individual who would like to take a step back from working at a senior level with a larger organisation or individuals seeking a step up to a more senior level role depending on your level of previous experience and readiness to take on the responsibility. Previous experience within the charity sector would be ideal.
