Financial Controller

Financial Controller job for diverse portfolio of companies in Chester paying £40-50K.


Hays are working with an entrepreneurial group of businesses as they look to appoint a qualified Financial Controller. This business has multiple entities across Commercial and Residential Property, private investments and development sites. The business is agile, well financed and growing significantly.

As Financial Controller you will report into an experienced Financial Director and take full responsibility for providing key business support across all aspects of the business. You will be assisted by a qualified accountant and junior administrative staff.

Key duties will include:

• Producing monthly management accounts for each trading entity
• Produce weekly cash flow forecast
• Year end accounting in conjunction with external accountants
• Financial reporting to shareholders
• Register new companies for VAT, deal with HMRC enquiries and VAT inspections
• Payment authorisation across all businesses
• Manage relationship with the bank and control complex reconciliations
• Maintain company insurances
• Work with external advisers on acquisitions and disposals of property and other assets

We are looking for qualified accountants on the ascent of their career. Ideal candidates may have a background in Practice, used to dealing with multiple companies and then gained experience working in Industry. However, Industry trained and qualified candidates are equally considered provided the experience is relevant. We are really looking for hands on SME experience and a willingness to get involved with work at all levels.

The successful candidate will join a fast-paced and interesting business where no two days will be the same. In a typical day you may be involved in very administrative account reconciliation work, have a meeting with solicitors relating to an acquisition and then present to the Board on a five year investment plan for a new project.
