This company operates over a number of sites and supplies equipment to customers throughout the UK. They have a long standing loyal workforce, a stable accounts department and are currently supported by an experienced Finance Director on a part-time basis. As part of their future plans they would now like to recruit a Finance & Operations Manager to become a member of the senior management team on site, participating in running the day to day operations and allowing the MD and FD to gradually get less involved over the next few years. The business is profitable but could be doing better and by introducing a highly operational Finance Manager / Financial Controller to review activity in all departments they hope to improve efficiency and drive performance. The ideal candidate for this role must therefore be very hands on and able to demonstrate a career history of getting involved in the operational challenges of running a family business, working with employees at all levels to make changes and solve problems, whilst also controlling and accurately reporting the numbers. Duties will be very varied but will predominantly involve:

  • Providing financial and operational support to retail / sales, servicing (parts & labour) and aftercare/ customer services.
  • Responsibility for the production of management accounts, budgets and forecasts
  • Analysis and reporting on performance, sales, margins, costs, labour utilisation etc.
  • Controlling cashflow and availability of working capital
  • Managing resources to ensure continuous improvement
  • Producing year end accounts, managing the audit and compliance requirements of the business
  • Developing financial systems and reports to support decision making

The ideal candidate for this role would be CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified with a track record of working with business owners and senior managers in an SME, providing financial support to help them drive productivity and profitability. A robust personality and strong communication skills will be essential to form credible relationships across the business, persuading and influencing to drive change where necessary. Experience from equipment sales, motor trade or plant hire would be very beneficial to help understand the challenges within this role and you will be fully supported by the family and part-time FD with a view to leading the finance team in the near future. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious Finance Manager or Financial Controller looking for a new role where they can add value outside of the routine of a regular finance role.
