Head of Financial Control

The Birmingham office of a global business is looking for a Head of Financial Control to join their team on a permanent, full time basis.

About the Role

The Head of Financial Control will be joining and leading a transitioning finance team. The role will include:

• Responsibility for all UK Reporting and Compliance, management and systems accounts, financial controls and FP&A – Managing and monitoring all of the UK results on a monthly basis
• Providing and anticipating the P&L visibility to top management and proposing the actions to manage or mitigate the risks or opportunities
• Supporting the UK control environment and set agendas for reporting and planning cycles throughout the year
• Driving best practice through banner budgeting and forecasting with a target of ‘no surprises’
• Providing a consultative service to the business partnering teams whilst ensuring controlling requirements are met
• Ensuring the UK budgeting and forecasting platform meets the requirements of its stakeholders and aligns to group chart of accounts and reporting
• Overseeing the bottom up budgeting and forecasting process, steering the Branch / Cost Centre budgeting process to ensure the timely and efficient production of branch targets
• Facilitating the reporting and tracking of key strategic initiatives through the budgeting and forecasting process
• Making evaluations and judgements across the balance sheets, suggesting actions to ensure agreed company targets are met, or the level of risk is understood and highlighted
• Challenging and supporting head office functions during budget and forecasting, then tracking their actual performance (e.g. HR, IT, operations, etc.)
• Providing a performance management framework for the UK and business units, with Strategic reporting being the key focus
• Controlling the reporting Matrix across the various streams required by the Group, UK and Banners
• Delivering Group and UK KPIs requirements e.g. Customer, stock sales, overrides, etc. driving consistency across all reporting variants
• Managing the performance, motivation, development, career planning of the teams, ensuring that the required levels of competency are developed, sustained and enhanced
• Ensuring that key processes are appropriately documented and succession managed

Candidate Profile

It is likely that the successful Head of Finance will have the following traits:

• A graduate, ACA qualified, practice trained professional, ideally from a Big 4 or Top 10 with at least 5 years’ experience operating within a senior finance position
• Experience of working in a similar role for a complex, multi-faceted retail, distribution or logistics business with extensive exposure to business modelling and analysis
• Experience must have been gained in a large, multi-site/logistics business (retail, third party logistics or other wholesaling)
• Experience in managing processes through a sustained period of change
• Excellent communication and business partnering skills along with the ability to produce and present financial/statistical data
• Experience demonstrating that you can understand business strategy, think long-term and provide insight and analysis into business performance in order to support effective financial planning
• Demonstrable track record of a proactive approach with senior stakeholders and the ability to provide clear and appropriate communication suitable to the audience and situation

Job Offer

The Head of Finance will receive a salary of £70,000 - £90,000 per annum plus benefits including bonus and car.
