Local Government accountant

These Local Authorities have started a journey towards collaborative working which will culminate in the establishment of a single paid officer team supporting two autonomous Councils. As the Strategic Management Accountant, you will work across both Councils to inform and devise a consistent approach for management reporting. This is a 6 month fixed term contract, and ideally requires an immediate start

Your new role
As part of this role you will align the financial strategies, assisting with setting the budgets for 2020/21 and the medium-term financial plans. You will be actively working with the Finance Team, Directors and Senior Managers to improve key financial and reporting processes to support business decisions and the Councils' Strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and strategic financial advice and expertise to members, managers and budget holders
  • Co-ordinate in the production of the Medium-Term Financial Strategies and Plan and annual budget
  • Undertake project work as required; including researching and producing business cases, capital and revenue estimates, costings, bids for external funding etc.


You must be
CCAB Qualified Accountant with a demonstrable track record of working in local government finance. They are looking for someone with up to date and extensive knowledge of local government finance codes of practice, regulatory framework, legislation and systems. Along with experience of developing 3-year capital and revenue budgets
