As the Finance Planning Modeller you will be responsible for working with the organisation to support with the bedding in of plans and budgets whilst ensuring appropriate modelling and assumptions are managed and maintained to deal with changes that may occur to services provided and funding arrangements.

Role Accountabilities

  • Lead the financial modelling activity for the company's multi-year planning and forecasting requirements using a range of modelling techniques to help screen options quickly and enable high quality decision-making by the Leadership Team and Board.
  • Provide scenario modelling and sensitivity stress testing where needed and lead with the preparation of key artefacts, tables and schedules for external and internal publication
  • Develop, implement and maintain leading practice processes and tools that encourage an integrated approach to planning and budgeting, and in year performance monitoring, covering the external perspective at customer constituency depth and any internal department and cost centre views required.
  • Provide scenario modelling and sensitivity stress testing where needed and lead with the preparation of key artefacts, tables and schedules for external and internal publication.
  • Work closely with the strategy team and business cost centre owners to capture, influence, validate and translate planning inputs into financial targets and budgetary information.
  • Communicate consolidated Business Plan with appropriate financial analysis and review, underpinned by strategic reference and narratives behind the financials.
  • Track live budget utilisation and conduct periodic reviews as part of the regular forecast update cycle including being able to calculate, interpret and communicate reasons for variances.
  • Lead on any financial modelling activity around specific strategic business ventures that fall outside of the normal Planning cycle.
  • Undertake strategic and tactical commercial analyses on emerging external factors to facilitate the quantification of and forward scanning of new business opportunities and threats.
  • Adapt business planning models and processes appropriately as a result of regulatory and contractual landscape changes.
  • Develop a network of contacts across the business, so that both financial and non-financial information can be identified and used to analyse the performance of the business.
  • Lead the development of in house cost absorption and service charging models and associated rate cards in use to drive improved transparency of charges and to provoke changes to the organisation's structure and ongoing funding arrangements.

Specialist/Technical Expertise

  • Excellent MS Excel modelling skills in an FP&A environment is highly desirable.
  • Can use Excel to manipulate and interrogate sizeable data sets efficiently and effectively.
  • Finance qualification (or working towards) preferable to facilitate ongoing development and integration in Finance function.
  • Commensurate experience in planning, forecasting and budget setting activities.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial / investment decision modelling to a high level of competency.
  • A structured and logical thinker who can investigate discrepancies using various data mining techniques and can evaluate opportunities and recommend courses of action to create commercial advantage.
  • The ability to communicate financial information for non-financial audiences
  • Working knowledge of SAP/BI and TM-1 tools would be an advantage.
  • Particular experience in applying cost absorption and allocation methods in practice.
  • Demonstrable track record in working in a finance environment within a medium sized commercial enterpriser to understand and appreciate financial management processes, accounting concepts, policies, and controls in such a business.
  • Has worked previously for a tech or data services company is preferred but not essential.
  • Understands the end-to-end operational aspects of landing and embedding a business plan
