The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is an exciting, dynamic organisation that works all over the world to find and destroy landmines and bombs, and make sure that some of the poorest and most vulnerable people can live free from fear.  As the only UK aid and development charity to have shared the Nobel Peace Prize, MAG is an energetic, inspiring and forward thinking organisation. Wars and conflicts erupt, subside and end. But they leave behind millions of landmines, unexploded bombs and unsecure arms. These pose an every-day danger for decades and disrupt the lives of communities for generations. At MAG, we believe that whenever and wherever wars happen, ordinary people should not be the ones who pay the price.

MAG has expanded significantly over the past three years and we have ambitious plans which means we will need to continue to develop and grow our global financial strategy, so we are as good as we can possibly be. We are seeking a Deputy Director of Finance to support the Director of Finance to build on our significant achievements to date and help drive the organisation forward at an exciting time.

As Deputy Director of Finance you will:

  • Direct, lead and develop the HQ Finance team in the delivery of strong financial control, effective financial business partnering, high quality information to facilitate decision-making and the development of financial infrastructure to support the current and foreseeable scale of delivery across MAG’s global programmes.
  • Support the Finance Director in their overarching job purpose of providing strategic leadership and oversight to the organisation to ensure a strong, sustainable future for MAG

Experience and skills required of our Deputy Director of Finance:

They will have experience of Strategic Treasury Management, including the management of foreign exchange risk and reducing investment in working capital. With excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, and the ability to lead and influence at the highest levels, they will lead, manage, motivate and develop teams, and inspire team members to grow into business partners who see themselves as fully integrated within the organisation and able to make a difference.

Some travel will be essential in this role, which could include visiting our programmes across Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia.

This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a proactive and solution-focussed leader.  It will offer you the opportunity to use your leadership skills in a fast-paced environment, supporting MAG’s global life-saving programme of work.

Please note that as part of MAG's commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.
