The Situation

The Royal Grammar School [RGS] in High Wycombe was granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1562. Much has changed since, but RGS continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the leading state selective schools in the country having been consistently rated ‘outstanding’.

With high academic standards, excellent examination results and the offer of a huge range of co-curricular experiences that are unparalelled in the state sector, the success of RGS is clear to see.

The school is currently looking to action some ambitious development initiatives and central to this growth is the hire of a Chief Operating Officer. Reporting into the Headmaster the role has functional responsibility for the non-teaching aspects of the school.  The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Finance | Controls | Processes
  • Income generation | Growth Plans
  • Facilities and Premises
  • Health and Safety
  • IT | Systems
  • Human Resources
  • Non–educational risk management

What will I need to be successful?

The ideal Candidate should demonstrate a successful career in the education or commercial world; whether this is in Finance, General Management or a similar discipline. Additionally, the Candidate will be an outstanding communicator, both written and oral and demonstrate the ability to inspire all stakeholders; the assessment of this skill will be a pivotal part of the selection process. Organisational skills are additionally important but these will need to be complemented by creativity, flexibility, and a passion for making a difference. Lastly, the individual must share the ambition to turn an already outstanding school into one that offers world-class provision.

The successful Chief Operating Officer will be offered up to £75,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
