Financial Controller - Leeds
£55,000 - £65,000 + bens (No1 Role in Private Equity with FD potential)
Avid Insurance is a niche multi-disciplined Insurance Intermediary and Managing General Agent, operating out of offices in London and Leeds. They act as both wholesale and retail brokers and work closely with their partners to build bespoke insurance schemes thereby providing unique insurance solutions with ongoing management support.
In August 2019, Beech Tree Private Equity took a majority stake in Avid and this now gives the business the “firepower” to accelerate their growth and build on the investments they’ve already made in people and systems in the preceding year.
With investment and growth comes an increased need and desire for financial control, reporting and commercial analysis. This will be provided by the new Financial Controller who will lead a small team and report directly to the Managing Director with a dotted line of support, mentoring and development to an ACA qualified non-executive Director. This role represents an opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a PE backed business at the start of an exciting journey which should ultimately allow them to become the Finance Director into and through a future transaction.
The Financial Controller will have the autonomy to develop and define the finance function. The financial controls environment is already robust and effective but will need to grow significantly with the business. Delivering the full accounting process is key but making the function scalable will be a primary objective. Your longer-term focus will be on working collaboratively with the wider business to define relevant KPIs and commercial analysis based on Big Data and strategic objectives.
You will work closely with the Board and be prepared to provide constructive challenge to established and evolving commercial thought and opportunities whilst maintaining strict adherence to FCA Regulations.
Finance needs to be embedded in the business as an added value function and the Financial Controller must be able to mirror the enthusiasm, professionalism, fun and dedication of the senior team.
The successful candidate will be attracted by the opportunity of working in a vibrant, fast moving, PE backed business. Operating in this environment, evolving into the role of FD and playing a key role in any future transactions should be a tremendous draw.
You will of course be a qualified accountant. An interest and ability to be hands on will be very important and you will have an affinity with data and compliance whilst also possessing strong interpersonal skills.
You might have worked in Industry since graduating or perhaps you trained in Practice before moving into an advisory function or out into Industry; we’re open to ideas. At some point in your career you will have worked in a Regulated Environment and you’ll absolutely be able to show the drive, common sense and commercial nous needed to succeed in this career defining role.
