My client is an award-winning Affordable Housing Association in Central London. This is an exciting time to join the organisation and be part of a very successful team. Due to their growth they are looking to recruit a talented individual for the position of Financial Accountant (Compliance, Statutory, Tax and Control). This role is predominantly suited for that of a tax accountant who has held a position within a recognised company and is ready for their next challenge.

Main Purpose of Role

Leads on all Group tax compliance matters acting as a tax technical specialist, to advise on, deliver and take accountability for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Groups’ direct and indirect tax affairs including VAT, Corporation tax and CIS matters.

Leads in the month preparation of balance sheets and cash flows. Ensures month end compliance is adhered to.

Leads in the compliance with accounting standards. Supports the finance team with technical accounting issues and provides support for with the preparation, production and analysis of a range of financial information.

Key Accountability

Tax compliance:

Maintain and develop robust processes and procedures to improve the efficiency of the calculation and production of VAT returns using system functionality, ensuring that these are correctly and fully documented as an integral part of the overall departmental procedures.

  • Lead on the planning, preparation and analysis of all relevant tax returns for the Group.
  • Oversee the preparation of the Group’s corporation tax return.
  • Oversee the calculation of the Group’s Corporation tax liability.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of the VAT Group tax return.
  • Handle all VAT compliance issues.
  • Review the Group’s annual VAT Partial Exemption calculation.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of the corporate tax returns.

Projects and transformation/Control Environment/Statutory Accounts &Audit:

  • Coordinate financial data and participate in the modelling of the impact of changes in financial reporting standards.
  • Coordinate the production of relevant analysis.
  • Promote the use of financial systems within the team to automate and align processes.
  • Provide guidance to the business planning team.
  • Provide support or lead on finance projects.
  • Ensure financial controls are adhered to including; payroll, balance sheets etc.
  • Assist in the production of the group accounts, including providing consolidation
  • working papers
  • Provide back up for the treasury accounting process including accounting under FRS 26/IFRS 9
  • Prepare workings for the auditors, assist them with any enquiries or requests for information.
