We are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to join our profitable start-up in London Bridge. This individual will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will play a key role in the reporting and strategies of the Finance function. This role would be ideal for a candidate with a strong desire to add value to a fast-growth international professional service company. We are using accrual accounting across the business. Moreover, the ideal candidate will have a passion for using technology to amplify their impact. 

Our main stack in finance is composed of Xero, ReceiptBank, Workflowmax, and PowerBI.

This is an opportunity to build a finance function from the ground up. We are using a lot of automation and processes to make sure that the work can be managed by one person with the support of the ops team and the COO. 

The role is more likely to appeal to an ambitious candidate excited about excellent financial stewardship. You must be ready to roll your sleeves and make an impact.

The mission of the Finance/Operations team is to add value to the business consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the Monthly Management Information reporting including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow forecast
  • Responsible for delivering the month-end close process by the second Friday of each month, entering manual journals and making all necessary accruals, accrued income, deferred income, and prepayments as well as bank reconciliations
  • Review our pricing methodology within six months and suggest improvements to the pricing of international projects
  • Assist the Chief Operating Officer on an ad-hoc basis in the financial due diligence of the businesses we will acquire
  • Contributing to business plans and forecasting, crucial for investment decisions
  • Understanding and influencing the drivers of performance to positively impact the top and bottom line.
  • Providing proactive, insightful and high-quality analysis to support key decision making using PowerBi.
  • Managing the end of year Annual accounts process
  • Developing cash flow reporting information and working alongside departments to manage payment and collection processes.
  • Developing cash budgets/forecasts for monthly, quarterly and annual periods.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and processes.
  • Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer to implement identified solutions.
  • Improvement and tracking of financial performance measures and quality KPIs.
  • Producing ad-hoc reports to communicate financial performance to the relationship management team in PowerBI
  • Issue all invoices and process all bills as well as making monthly payments
  • Process and manage the monthly payroll and RTI
  • Process and manage the quarterly VAT returns
  • Control, assess and report on the gross profitability of all our projects using adequate reporting tools
  • Chase late invoices
  • Liaise with clients over invoice/finance queries
  • Be the sole point of contact for finance questions/expense for all stakeholders
  • Undertaking various other duties within the finance department as required

 

Requirements

  • Fully qualified in a recognized accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Especially Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Proficiency with Xero and ReceiptBank
  • Knowledge of a range of IT finance platforms, processes, systems architecture, and integrated systems solutions (ERP), especially Workflowmax
  • Knowledge or keen interest in business intelligence reporting software, especially PowerBI
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of commercial acumen.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Flexible approach to tasks and teamwork.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritise workload and deliver high quality and timely information.
