Due to internal promotion an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Rix Group, for a Management Accountant to join the team. This business partnering role will play a crucial part with the entrepreneurial Group of businesses and will reside to the Shipping and Maritime departments as well as Fuelmate, which have a combined turnover in excess of £80million. You will work closely with the senior Managers and Directors of the businesses, provide a consultative approach when interpreting the accounts and add value when necessary.


About the Businesses:

Rix Shipping operates a fleet of oil tankers, estuarial barges and crew transfer vessels. The business also offers a number of services, such as freight forwarding, stevedoring, warehousing and fuel bunkering. 

Rix Maritime Bunkering Limited is one of the largest suppliers of marine fuels on the Humber estuary, providing a full range of marine fuels on the East Coast of the UK and throughout the world, through a network of trading partners.   

Fuelmate supplies fuel cards for business fleets throughout the UK and offer flexible fuel card solutions to business fleets’ re-fuelling needs, whilst working with brands such as BP, Keyfuels, Shell, Texaco, UK Fuels and Esso.
 


The Role:

As the Management Accountant, you will be a key person within the finance team and report directly to the Finance Director. You will be situated at Head Office in Hull, although there may be a requirement to travel to other sites within the Group on occasion.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce monthly management accounts and reporting packs and present these to senior management, within Rix Shipping, Rix Maritime Bunkering and Fuelmate. This will include posting journals, performing accruals and prepayments and reconciling balance sheet accounts and inter-company transactions.
  • Produce year-end accounts and deal with the Auditors (Smailes Goldie) as part of the Group’s year end audit.
  • Review company performance to provide analysis and commentary, explaining what has occurred and why, to aide senior management in their decision making.
  • Oversee a small accounts team, who operate in the different businesses and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Analyse financial performance with key internal stakeholders, such as senior Managers and Directors and contribute to the medium and long-term business planning and forecasts.
  • Monitor and evaluate financial information systems and suggesting improvements where needed.
  • Group VAT, duty returns and reconciliations.
     

Your Experience

To be the successful Management Accountant, you will be a ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified Accountant. The role would be an excellent first move into industry for a qualified Accountant who is currently working in practice, alternatively if you are adequate practical experience working purely within industry.

You will be a highly motivated and energetic person with a commercial acumen who is able to identify areas of interest for the stakeholders of the accounts. You will be comfortable working with people and have strong verbal and written communication skills, to be able to present work to account users.

The role will require you to be IT literate with excellent Excel skills. The accounting system used MS Dynamics GP (Great Plains), however it is not essential that you have experience using this system.
