Senior Finance Business Partner


Job Purpose: To be a trusted and influential member the partner business leadership team, shaping strategic and operational decision making by providing insight, challenge and advice. To ensure the financial services provided by the Business Services Function meet the business needs and are delivered in an accurate and timely way. To use the financial information provided by Business Services Function, along with the role holders deep business understanding to ensure decisions are effectively planned and executed, minimising risk and making use of their resource in the most effective way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops effective business partner relationships with the client directorate at all levels. Ensures that Senior Managers have an integrated view of financial performance, with early warning on significant changes in expected performance/costs/income along with clear corrective actions.
  • Manages preparation of the business plan, budget and the maintenance of the forecast and with focus on associated risk and opportunities
  • Formulate plans to maximise financial and business performance (including maximising revenue and efficiencies delivery) through the provision of high quality performance information and effective business partnering and stakeholder engagement.
  • Supports and challenges Sponsors, Directors and Senior Managers using investment and project appraisal techniques and models to support effective decision making on project and investments proposals.
  • Ensures the validity of all information with a financial consequence originating from the partner business function; from the underlying accounting transactions captured in Business Services Function to information presented to internal boards and committees or into the public domain
  • Accountable for ensuring full financial control and management is in place, including working capital management, although the majority of these processes and controls will be completed in the Business Services Function.
  • Manages the capability and drives the development of the Finance Business Partnering team and assist in developing training for non-finance managers and budget holders to improve commercial and financial skills.
  • To provide inspirational leadership to achieve behavioral changes and to create a "can do" culture across the directorate.


Essential:

  • Expert level experience in stakeholder management of senior leaders at large and equally complex organisations with regards to financial performance
  • Expert level experience in variance and financial / budgetary analysis, forecasting, cost accounting, business planning and risk and controls
  • Expert level experience of driving significant value out of efficiencies and leading on savings programmes
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, graphic) skills - able to evidence based on experience
  • Experience of integrated ERP accounting platforms (SAP) able to develop data strategies to enable effective reporting, planning, financial management and control
  • Experience of managing and developing high performing finance teams
  • CCAB qualified or equivalent
