Holden Jones is working with a small business who are in need of some rather straightforward work for around 15 – 20 hours per month. The business is growing, having turned over £500,000 last year and are hopeful of between £850,000 and £1m by the end of this. I have been speaking to the MD/Owner who has been doing the invoicing etc himself – and he is not accountancy trained. The business is predominantly home working even pre-COVID.

The business actually requires a bookkeeper throughout the month but with particular emphasis to work a number of hours during the last day or two of the month as that is when invoices are issued. In truth he realises that this is low key but could do with some advice every now and then from a business perspective. He would therefore like to work with someone who is happy doing some routine stuff for him but is capable of more. He has a budget to pay someone around £25 per hour which is probably all he needs to pay for the job in hand, however, I have explained that if the candidate were to offer more meaningful, therefore expensive advice, then the arrangement would be to put through extra hours to compensate as and when appropriate. We are envisaging someone who may be looking to supplement their income or maybe someone who has a portfolio of smaller business doing something of a similar nature and has the spare capacity to accommodate them.

They use Xero as their accounting software.
