Blackwaters is recruiting a Financial Controller on behalf of a fast growing distribution group In Crawley.

This is a full time and permanent opportunity offering a competitive salary package dependent upon candidate experience. The successful applicant will have held a finance manager position or similar, ideally within an SME. An appetite for working within a high growth business is essential.

The key responsibilities of the role will include oversight of all financial aspects of the operations, including:

  • Overall responsibility for delivery of all weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to a high standard of accuracy.
  • Delivery of statutory accounts and tax returns,
  • Ensuring robust and efficient finance processes, accounting systems and controls.
  • The smooth running of the central finance operation by providing a robust and efficient service, in line with agreed KPIs.
  • Managing the operational finance processes
  • Managing the finance systems

Functional Responsibilities

  • Full management responsibility for the current finance team, including management accounting, invoicing, sub-contract applications, credit control, payroll, cash and working capital management
  • Responsible for overseeing all reporting to HMRC, including: PAYE, VAT, CRS and Corporation Tax returns.
  • Managing the relationship with the company’s external accountants and all aspects of year end accounting.
  • Reviewing and refining all finance procedures, where appropriate
  • Managing all bank payments and cashflow
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and associated board reporting.
  • Production and analysis of company-wide KPIs Responsible for all board level financial presentation

Key Attributes

  • CIMA, ACA OR ACCA qualified
  • SME exposure, ideally in a fast-growing business
  • Desire to manage a small team
  • Ability to work autonomously in developing & streamlining the finance function and developing robust financial controls
  • An advanced Excel user, competent with managing, reviewing & analysing data, & challenging data
  • Strong attention to detail under pressure & working with high volumes
  • Customer-centric approach & focus on positive stakeholder experience
  • A natural problem-solving mentality & approach; able to think quickly & decisively to solve issues
  • Highly organised with a natural ability to prioritise
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations, push back and ask questions; comfortable in environments of change
