Bursar and Chief Financial Officer
Goudhurst, Kent
£60,000 to £66,000 + Benefits
Be more than just a Bursar.
For more than just another school.
Bethany is a genuinely unique school. Occupying 60 acres of the magnificent Weald in the heart of the Kent countryside, we provide an exceptional education to 350 pupils aged 11 to 18, including 89 boarders. We’re among the top 0.5% of all schools for A level pupil progress, but we focus on far more than exam results: we want our pupils to develop a lifelong love of learning, whilst becoming confident, tolerant adults ready to forge exciting futures.
You will be central to making this happen.
Much more than just a Bursar, you will be our Chief Financial Officer and Clerk to the Governors. More importantly, you will be the visionary who keeps us on a firm financial footing whilst taking our service provision to the next level. We will look to you to develop a far-reaching business plan and drive everything we do: from accounting to estates and facilities, IT, procurement, general administration, marketing and catering. But that’s not all – you will also be responsible for compliance and risk management, data security, liaison with educational bodies and, as a registered charity, with the Charity Commission, and the line management of almost all our support staff.
It’s a considerable challenge, so we need a world-class professional who can carefully control costs whilst maximising our income and impact. Chances are you will hold a formal accounting or finance qualification, and you will certainly bring an analytical mindset plus extensive experience in senior financial management positions. Needless to say, you will be adept at planning and leading change, ready to take your place in our Senior Management Team – and above all confident in taking key decisions that will shape the future of everyone who works or studies here.
If you have what it takes, we’ll give you everything you need, including a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits such as a generous pension scheme, Benenden Health Care, free meals during term time and more. We’ll also give you the chance to make your mark on a unique community – and the opportunity to realise your full potential.
