This Finance Director role:

Homes England currently has a balance sheet of £17 billion, which will rise to approximately £22 billion in 2022/23, the complexity and structure of this balance sheet has changed considerably over recent years. The Director of Finance ensures effective management of this balance sheet, including valuations and critical accounting judgements. They also manage the organisation’s net programme budget of c£6.5billion per year and operational expenditure of £120 million. 

Working as a core member of our strategic leadership team, the Director of Finance will report to our Chief Finance Officer. Additionally, as a Corporate Director this role will be a member - and in some cases chair - of corporate boards, such as People Board or Transformation Board.   

The Director of Finance will support the Chief Executive and the Chief Finance Officer on all finance and accounting issues and lead the relationship with the National Audit Office external audit team. 

Providing strategic and inspirational leadership to a 50 strong Finance team including four direct reports, the role will ensure that proper internal controls and systems are maintained, and that financial planning supports and enhances the business operations. 

The Director of Finance will oversee annual statutory accounts and provide our Chief Executive, Chief Finance Officer, Audit and Risk Committee and Board with oversight of key management judgements and issues. The role will also ensure compliance with financial and HMRC statutory and forge strong relationships with the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Treasury.

About you...

You will hold a full professional CCAB qualification and possess detailed knowledge of the control of complex financial transactions such as loans, guarantees and equity investments.  

Knowledge of the control of land acquisitions and disposals and experience of developing business plans whilst embedding a culture of financial planning across an organisation is essential.  

You will have a proven track record of leading finance functions within a complex, fast-paced and ever-changing environment.  

An experienced and inspirational senior leader, you will bring a strong track record of positive, collaborative leadership and of creating and sustaining inclusive, engaged teams. 

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable influencing and communicating at Board level. Your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as an agency. You will enjoy working in an innovative and engaging way and be able to motivate a team to help deliver our strategic mission.
