Dartmouth are working exclusively with a high growth media business based in central London to help enhance their group finance team. The company are a world leader in design and branding and have a truly global presence. Since taking private equity backing a few years ago they are now aggressively expanding into new business lines.
The group finance function is a critical part of the company with the accounting team being a core driver of growth. Reporting to the Group Finance Director, the Head of Tax is responsible to effectively manage the tax team leading on the Group's direct and indirect taxes across all jurisdictions ensuring compliance with tax legislation.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the corporate tax compliance process, acting as a key point of contact for external advisors and foreign branches.
- Define the Group's global tax strategy and identifying any direct or indirect tax inefficiencies, along with correcting processes and controls
- Act as subject matter expert for tax on new product launches, and expansion into new jurisdictions
- Accountable for indirect tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including filing of returns, advising on structure and tax planning as well as utilising technology to reduce time spent on compliance activities while maintaining financial control and accuracy of submissions
- Accountable for corporation tax compliance along with Group's R&D tax credit process
- Accountable and responsible for all elements of the P&L and Balance Sheet for tax items
- Accountable for providing tax provisions and supporting disclosures in support of the year end and half year processes, including audit queries and completion
- Maintain an oversight of the group’s tax position, working with senior management on assessing tax risk and strategy.
- Active contribution to Group-wide and Finance-wide strategic initiatives and objectives
- Other ad hoc strategic and tactical requests
- Manage the Group's direct and indirect taxes and ensure compliance with tax legislation
- Lead the tax function working with the wider finance team in respect of the application of appropriate transfer pricing rules and supporting with the implementation of group-wide transfer pricing policies
- Assist and advise of process improvements and systems and documentation development
- Maintain compliance across the group of other international tax considerations
- Regular review and refinement of direct and indirect tax governance policies, processes and procedures to ensure the continuous improvement
- Ensure the Group minimises tax risk and unnecessary tax leakages, whilst striving to achieve tax efficiencies; tax support for M&A opportunities
- Work with external advisors with more complex or bespoke issues to ensure the right level of advice is sought particularly for new territories or if there is perceived to be significant tax risk attached to a specific transaction
- Support the Finance Leadership Team to monitor the profitability of group entities and the make-up of the group structure, ensuring sufficient profit and cash extraction routes are in place for group funding requirements
- Act as point of contact for all tax audits
Person specification:
- Experienced Finance professional, with a strong foundation of financial management with relevant accounting qualifications (CIMA / ACCA / ACA or similar)
- Experience of tax compliance management, international taxation and group structuring
- Understanding of indirect taxes
- Proven ability to translate technical Tax information into commercially focused advice
- Ability to prioritise high workloads
- Resilient, ambitious and driven with experience working in fast-paced and changing businesses
- Significant analysis experience, attention to detail and focus on adding value to reported data
- Ability to summarise and bring clarity to reported data in a fast past and dynamic environment
- Accounting knowledge in P&L, balance sheet and cashflow management
- Effective communication and presentation skills with ability to communicate clearly with senior finance staff both internally and with our parent company
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels across the business functions and influence senior management/directors and wider stakeholders
