Unity is a successful, independent and ambitious housing association driven by social purpose which supports BME communities and multi-cultural neighbourhoods in Leeds and Kirklees. The principal activity is the development and management of 1,300 social housing units. We are proud to call ourselves a BME Housing Association, part of the BME housing movement, and believe that is as important today as it was when we were founded 30 years ago. Unexpectedly the Association is now recruiting for a Finance Manager, a pivotal role within the Group.
The role of Finance Manager reports directly to the Resources Director, but the successful candidate will have involvement with all members of the SMT, all the other staff and with the Group’s Non-Executive Directors. The role will involve: Preparation of financial information including management accounts, treasury management and business planning information for internal and external purposes. You will assist in the development of financial policies, procedures and systems and the management of the financial affairs of the Association including ensuring compliance with all regulatory matters. You will work across the organisation to develop, encourage and initiate cross team working throughout the Association.
The successful candidate:
- Either holder of a recognised accountancy qualification or, if qualified by experience, able to demonstrate a minimum of 5 years’ operating at an appropriate level.
- A diligent, inquisitive individual with an excellent work ethic.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commercial awareness and understanding gained either within a not for profit organisation or in a commercial organisation.
- A commitment to social purpose and an understanding of how to combine the efficient operation of a substantial business with wider social and economic aims.
- Excellent people skills and staff management experience.
- This is an outstanding opportunity for a first-class accountant with the right track record, who ‘gets’ what Unity Homes and Enterprise is all about. The Board’s commitment to diversity and to social purpose is non-negotiable, but, if that is your starting point too, you will find Unity good to work with and a great place for your talent to flourish. Benefits:
A competitive salary and benefits package is offered including:
- SHPS (social housing pension scheme - a defined benefit 1/20th CARE scheme).
- 35 hour working week
- 27 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Free parking
- Flexible working opportunities
