Management Accountant

Job purpose: Reporting to the Senior Business Partner, the Management Accountant will work closely with budget holders to provide financial decision support. They will provide financial reports and analysis to help improve the understanding of business performance. Where required the Management Accountant will undertake financial analysis and reporting required for regulatory purposes as well as costing, monitoring, and reporting on external funding.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Produce management accounting information at the end of each month in line with the agreed timetable and support the Senior Business Partner to deliver period end results and reporting.
  • Contribute to management accounting analysis, interpretation, and commentary.
  • Prepare accounting adjustments and supporting audit trails in line with accounting policy and standards.
  • Assist with continuous development of KPIs and MI tools to support stakeholders with decision making.
  • Regularly liaise with Finance Team colleagues to ensure that financial information relating to commitments and spend is up to date and can be accurately reflected in management reports.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and regular forecasts and cashflows.
  • Assist in the preparation of the statutory accounts.
  • Provide support for appropriate costing, financial monitoring, and reporting on external funding / statutory/ regulatory/ compliance obligations, including such as grants.

Other:

  • Maintain an awareness of current technical financial and accounting developments and matters within the sector relevant to the role.
  • Promote a constructive partnership culture of financial control and sound financial management and the achievement of financial performance objectives within the department.
  • Support the core remit of the Financial Planning & Analysis team and provide cover and support for other members of the team when required and actively exchange ideas and best practise.
  • Actively follow and promote the University of London policies, including the University's Dignity at Work and Equal Opportunities Policy and actively promote these wherever possible.
  • Maintain an awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations.
  • Any other duties, consistent with the grade and scope of the post.


Required:

  • Prior Management accounting experience in a large, complex organisation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to influence.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, timetables, and targets.
  • Ability to engage constructively with non-financial colleagues to support the achievement of objectives.
  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise effectively.
